Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside is hopeful of resolving a UEFA Cup bonus wrangle with the Bolton players following their recent success on the European stage. Gartside is in talks with a number of leading football bodies to ensure that his players get rewarded for their excellent performances against teams from the continent.

Under normal rules bonuses have to be sanctioned in advance but Gartside is hoping that a resolution can be met with the Players Union, The PFA and the Premier League officials.

"It was just an oversight," Gartside revealed to the Bolton Evening News earlier this week.

"We didn't put anything in the contracts and they didn't pick up on it, but there's no aggravation. The rules are that you can't pay bonuses that have no been agreed in advance, but there are ways round it, when there's been a genuine mistake.

"It's not really an issue and it's something we can easily resolve with the players." he added

Bolton currently top Group H in the UEFA Cup having achieved four points from their first two games against Besiktas of Turkey and Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg. They travel to Portugal to face Vitoria Guimaeres in two weeks time and this is followed by a home tie against Sevilla in December.
