The UEFA Cup group stages are now upon us as Bolton Wanderers travel over to Istanbul to take on Turkish giants Besiktas at the Inonu Stadium. Wanderers have a number of injury concerns going into this game as Ivan Campo, Nicky Hunt and Jay-Jay Okocha are all definately ruled out of contention through injury. To make matters worse Stelios Giannakopoulos and Gary Speed both joined that list this week having picked up injuries during last weekends game with Chelsea.

Sam Allardyce has been forced to add youngsters Bedi Buval, Jarostaw Fojut and Chris Howarth to his Bolton squad to compensate for the recent loss of the above squad members.

Besiktas will be temporarily managed by Mehmet Eski and Ulvi Guveneroghi after head coach Riz Calimbay handed in his resignation earlier on this week to disrupt preparations.

The Black Eagles have appointed veteran English coach Gordon Milne as Football Director this week, but the former Coventry City manager's arrival in Istanbul is not to replace Calimbay as the team manager.

Preston-born Milne is a popular figure with the Turkish club having won three championships with them during a previous spell in charge between 1987 and 1994.

During his first spell in Turkey Milne worked with striker Les Ferdinand and the future England international went on to lift the Turkish cup with Besiktas in the 1988-1989 season. Ferdinand was later to play for Bolton in the Premiership some fifteen years later.

Besiktas are likely to include former Manchester United player Kleberson in their midfield for tommorows game. The World Cup winner spent two years at Old Trafford and made just 20 league appearances.
