Hidetoshi Nakata has been honoured by Italy and will now hold the title of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity following an announcement from the Palace of Italian president Carlo Ciampi.
The prestigious award was originally set up in 1947 and was handed out to those who had helped go over and above the call of duty to rebuild Italy and it's commerce after the Second World War had ended.
Japanese international Nakata has been given the highly acclaimed honour after promoting Italian Football across the globe during his seven years in the Serie A league between 1998 and 2005.
Nakata joined Bolton on loan from Fiorentina in the summer and has quickly become a crowd favourite at the Reebok Stadium due to some dazzling recent displays in the Premier League.
