Borgetti became the first Mexican to play in the English Premiership when moving from Pachuca for a fee in excess of a million pounds in August 2005.

His exploits as a "fox in the box" for Pachucha and Mexico persuaded Sam Allardyce to fork out big money to bring the South American over to England.

He has scored over 30 goals in 60 plus international appearances, as well as over 200 goals in his native Mexico for a number of different clubs.

Borgetti has played in the 2002 World Cup Finals in Japan and Korea and is hoping to be a major part of his country's bid to reach the 2006 finals in Germany.

His popularity in Mexico is similar to that of David Beckham in England and he says that a move abroad will help improve his game and calm his personal life.

He made his international debut against Ecuador in 1997 and has since gained a reputation as one of the most feared strikers in recent South American history.

Sam Allardyce gave him time to adapt to the English routine and whilst prolific in all of the cup competitions in his first season with the club he failed to reproduce that form in the Premiership with the manager suggesting that he needed to be physically better prepared in England.
