Abdoulaye Diange Faye could become the third Senegalese international to join the Wanderers if he impresses in a training stint over the next week.
The Lens midfielder has been given special permission to spend part of the pre-season schedule with Bolton and this could lead to a season long loan deal if the Trotters like what they see.
Diange-Faye had gone over to a training camp in Switzerland with the rest of the Wanderers squad last week, and manager Sam Allardyce has heard plenty of good feedback about the defensive midfielder, who spent the whole of last season on loan to French club Istres.
"We have had excellent reports about the player and I am looking forward to seeing him," said Allardyce, who had waited behind in England to make some progress on possible transfer targets.
"He is keen to come and play in England and if he fits into our structure, I am sure he will be a player that would interest us."
Bolton already have Diagne-Faye's countrymen El-Hadji Diouf and Khalilou Fadiga in their squad, and this is likely to prove a swaying factor in bringing the 27-year old over to English football.
