Barber Staying Put

Goalkeeping coach Fred Barber has signed a new and improved contract which will keep him at Bolton Wanderers for the foreseeable future thus ending any potential interest in him from the Trotters Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Barber had been widely tipped to follow previous Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce to Newcastle United but the appointment of Gary Megson as Bolton boss last month has prompted the 44-year old to stay at the Reebok Stadium.

The retirement of Newcastle goalkeeping coach Terry Gennoe through injury prompted Allardyce to head hunt Barber but the fact that Megson knew Barber from their time together at Stockport County and West Bromwich Albion means that Bolton have managed to keep hold of one of their most valued members of the backroom staff.
