Spanish defender Cesar Martin became the latest addition to the Bolton Wanderers squad when penning a contract until the end of the season earlier today. The 29-year old centre half is a free agent having left Levante at the end of January and this loophole has enabled him to move to the Reebok Stadium outside of the transfer window regulations.

Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has been tracking the experienced stopper for over twelve months now having first tried to capture him during his days with Deportivo La Coruna.

Cesar, full name Cesar Martin Villar, has over 200 games experience in the Spanish La Liga and has won nine caps for his country, the last coming against Andorra in 2004.

Allardyce says his new recruit will be a welcome addition to the Bolton team once he recaptures his fitness levels.

"I am delighted to sign Cesar for the rest of this season. Once he became a free agent we moved quickly to secure his services."

"He needs to build his fitness levels up before featuring in the Premiership. I have been monitoring him for quite some time and he has some key attributes which will potentially strengthen on our defensive unit once he reaches the optimum levels of fitness. With only three experienced centre-backs at my disposal, Cesar can make an impact in the last 11 games of this season"

Cesar joins Lubo Michalik, Zoltan Harsanyi and David Thompson in moving to Bolton since the turn of the year.
