Bolton Wanderers are one of a number of British clubs credited with an interest in PSV Eindhoven's combative midfielder Jason Culina. The 26-year old, who can also operate as a defender, is set to move on from the Phillips Stadium in January for a cut price £1 million fee and the Wanderers are understood to have joined the likes of Aston Villa, Fulham and Portsmouth in the race.

Old Firm giants Celtic and Rangers are also said to be keen on bringing Culina to the UK after he put in a number of impressive performances as an everpresent for Australia in the last World Cup.

Culina began his football career with hometown club Sydney Olympic in the 1997-1998 campaign and has since played in Europe for FC Twente, Ajax and Belgian club Beerschot.

The player's UK representative Dean Sheehan beleives that his client is very similar to current Premiership midfielder Steed Malbranque, who was strongly linked with Bolton prior to moving from Fulham to Tottenham Hotspur in August.

"Jason is perfect for the British game. He is quick, strong but also has great vision and creativity, He also works hard for the team which cannot be said of all creative players. If Jason is allowed to express himself, he will make a hatful of goals. I believe he can be a Steed Malbranque." said Sheehan to Sky Sports.
