41-year-old Clayton Blackmore has been appointed player/manager of Bangor City, having marshalled the midfield of the Welsh Premier outfit for five seasons. The Welshman left Old Trafford twelve years ago.

Former Manchester United midfielder Clayton Blackmore has entered football management with Welsh Premier outfit Bangor City.

Blackmore replaces another former Red, Peter Davenport, in the Farrar Road hot seat as he looks to lift the North Walian outfit back into contention for European qualification.

Blackmore is, amazingly, still playing at the age of 41 almost 12 years after departing Old Trafford. The Welshman made over 250 appearances for United before gradually slipping down the leagues after joining Middlesbrough. At the age of 36, the hardworking veteran refused to retire and accepted a low-wage contract at Bangor where he is still plying his trade some five years later.

"Clayton Blackmore was my first player appointment five years ago, a Welsh International and Manchester United star who has become a legend in Bangor City's 'hall of fame'. said chairman Ken Jones.

The Citizens are one of the best supported clubs in the semi-professional Welsh Premier, yet they have fallen on hard times recently. They currently sit 9th in the Welsh Premier table, and frustrated supporters feel the appointment of Blackmore will unleash new life into the beleaguered club.
