Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he will not be approaching Bayern Munich for Michael Ballack before the August 31st transfer deadline. Ruud van Nistelrooy has reiterated his intentions to stay at Old Trafford despite tempting links to La Liga giants Barcelona and Real

However, the Scotsman hinted there could be a future move on the cards but not just yet as Alan Smith is being adapted to Roy Keane's midfield position.

"There will be nothing before the transfer window," he revealed, regarding Ballack.

"Roy Keane sees characteristics in Alan that he saw in himself as a young player, which could help Alan develop into a very good player in that position."

Ballack himself admitted he would be interested in a move to Old Trafford but is focusing on his current club, Bayern Munich, who have offered him a new contract.

The German international is currently mulling over it but has an eye on the Red Devils for the future as he looks to prepare Germany for when they host the World Cup this summer.
