Manchester United were victorious at Turf Moor in the Stan Ternent testimonial, with the Red Devils winning the Lancastrian derby 3-1. The game was played at a slow pace, with the result an irrelevance as Burnley supporters said a final thank you to former boss Ternent.

Stan Ternent's era at Burnley came to an end, as Manchester United beat the Clarets 3-1 in a testimonial match arranged for the former manager of the Lancastrian outfit. Several first-team players were in action as United secured the victory, but the majority of the 8,814 attendance were only interested in bidding farewell to Ternent who watched the game from the stands.

With the international week ongoing, United were never going to be able to field a full-strength side at Turf Moor. However, Tim Howard, Mikael Silvestre, Phillip Neville, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Paul Scholes, David Bellion and Ryan Giggs all played a part in the game which never really kicked out of first gear - a typical testimonial match, with the result of little relevance.

Goals from Scholes, Neville and Chris Eagles were enough to give the Red Devils a comfortable victory, although Marc Pugh netted consolation for the home side late on. United were 2-0 ahead at the break, and a series of substitutions saw both sides fielding youth-like teams in the second period, with both sides hitting a goal each in the final 45 minutes of the encounter.

United didn't come close to selling their 2,000 allocation for this match - hardly surprising in all honesty, as this was a night for Burnley Football Club to reflect on the Ternent era. He had taken the club back into England's second flight, come close to achieving promotion to the Premiership and led them to an F.A Cup quarter-final.
