Adverse weather conditions have forced referee Andy D'Urso to cancel Manchester United's encounter with Urawa Red Diamonds 10 minutes before the 9pm kick-off. Boca Juniors' clash with PSV was alos cancelled. Hobbs in Trouble

Adverse weather conditions have forced referee Andy D'Urso to cancel Manchester United's encounter with Urawa Red Diamonds 10 minutes before the 9pm kick-off.

Players will now go into Sunday's Community Shield clash with Arsenal on Sunday and next week's Champions League qualifier to Romania slightly unfit and lacking match practice

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson agreed to the sensible decision and wants his players to be safe- "You can't take chances with players' safety" said the Scotsman.

"In all my career, I can never remember a game being called off for thunder and lightning but while I feel particularly sorry for the Urawa players who have travelled 14 hours to get here, I think the referee made the right decision."

United have not had the best of pre-seasons this year after losing ever game in the tour of America and this further blow.

Boca's game with PSV was also cancelled.
