Manchester United have ended their disappointing season on a high after sailing to a 3-0 victory over Millwall at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium earlier this afternoon.

Goals came courtesy of a double whammy from Ruud van Nistelrooy and a late first half opener from the particularly sensational Cristiano Ronaldo.

United skipper Roy Keane and Millwall's player/manager Dennis Wise both started despite going into the game with a question mark over their fitness.

The honours were even in the opening minutes but Ronaldo broke down the Lions' defence to set-up Ruud van Nistelrooy, who's diving header narrowly missed the target.

United continued to pile the pressure on the Division One outfit and Roy Keane came close from the edge of the box but Andy Marshall tipped the pile-driver over the bar for the corner.

Nineteen-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo deservedly broke the dead-lock before the interval thanks to a trademark Gary Neville cross that the Portuguese international headed home just before the break.

United had a penalty appeal turned down with seconds left of the half when Dennis Wise seemed to manhandle Paul Scholes in the box but Jeff Winter, refereeing his final football match, took no notice.

Almost instantly after the re-start, Darren Fletcher caused havoc amongst the Millwall defence but his determined run was broken down.

Frenchman Mikael Silvestre, who scored in the Community Shield win at the Millennium Stadium earlier in the season, had a great header blocked off the line by Dennis Wise minutes later.

The Red Devils were awarded a penalty after the hour mark when David Livermore clattered Ryan Giggs in the box. Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy fired home the consequent penalty.

Man of the match Van Nistelrooy prodded in his second and United's 3rd goal of the game with 9 minutes to go after Ryan Giggs' cross/shot wasn't cleared by Andy Marshall.

Roy Carroll, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Nicky Butt, who may have played his last game for United, all came on after the goal to play down the clock.

The final whistle blew and that confirmed United's 11th ever FA Cup.

As the United players went up to collect their winners' medal, they wore 'Davis 36' - remembering Jimmy Davis, who tragically died earlier in the term.

Cristiano Ronaldo put in a tremendous performance in midfield, and terrified the Millwall defence right from the start. His bags of pace mixed with a series of entertaining tricks made him fascinating to watch all game, and he fully deserves the ManUtdWeb man of the match award.
