Sven Hoping For Rio Ban Reduction
England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is hoping that Manchester United defender Rio Ferdiand's 8-month ban is reduced at his hearing on Thursday so the 25-year old is ready for Euro 2004 in Portugal this summer.

Ferdinand, who was signed for a whopping £30 million from Leeds in 2002, was banned from playing football for 8-months in the winter after missing a random drugs test at United's Carrington training ground and England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson wishes his high-profile ban is reduced.

"I don’t know what’s going to happen but if he could have a lesser punishment, I should be happy," said Eriksson

"If that's fair or not, I will leave for the other people to decide." he continued.

The Swede also thinks that The Red Devils are missing the defender, saying: "I'm sure they miss Rio Ferdinand. Because if you see the difference between now and the beginning of the season, you can see they miss him."
