Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre will be out for three weeks after clashing with Alan Smith during United's 1-1 draw. The French international limped off with an injury and now looks likely to miss 4 United games.

Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre will be out for three weeks after limping off of United's 1-1 draw with rivals Leeds on Saturday with a ankle injury following a clash with Alan Smith.

This means Silvestre will miss both legs of United's crunch European Cup second round tie against FC Porto, as well as the vital Premiership away match against Fulham and the F.A Cup quarter-final tie against either West Ham United or Fulham at Old Trafford. Silvestre will aim to return for United's Premiership derby match against arch-rivals Manchester City on March 14th.

"Mikael will be out for three weeks," said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It is a big blow for us but we will just have to get on with it."

With United's defence looks very vulnerable at present, it's a huge blow and makes United's chances of winning the Premiership this season even slimmer. The French international has shown a good level of consistency in performances this season, and his versatility will be missed.
