Manchester United are chasing cash-strapped Parma's exciting prospect- Matteo Ferrari according to reports in Italy.

Parma have to sell their star players in order to avoid receivership due to the collapse of owners Parmalat and Ferrari along with the likes of Bonera, Montano, Frey, Junior, Morfeo and Bresciano have to be sold in order to gain cash.

The former Bari and Inter defender, 24, has already won caps for Italy and has been incredibly impressive in this and last year's Serie A championship.

Ferrari has already had a £2 million bid from Juventus turned down and Parma want to put the boy on auction to other clubs, including Manchester United, that are interested.

Following Rio Ferdinand's 8-month band and Wes Brown's lack of match practice, Sir Alex may just be tempted in signing this fantastic prospect.
