The second string side looked on course to collect their first three points of the season, as they went in two goals to the good at the break. Mads Timm's 31st minute header from a David Bellion cross gave the Red Devils the lead at Moss Lane, and Darren Fletcher added a second just before half-time.

The 'Boro team talk at the break obviously had a massive affect on the visitors, and they were back in the game only 90 seconds into the second period. Phil Gulliver hit a great low volley, and ex-United assistant Steve McLaren's side began to pile on the pressure.

With ten minutes to go, it was starting to look as if United could cling on for a much-needed victory, but Brian Close levelled the score with only 9 minutes to go, and from there, it looked as if there would be only one winner. Craig Dove got the winner three minutes from time to complete an outstanding comeback from Middlesbrough, and keep the United reserve sides very poor run of form going.
