Barthez and Silvestre in French Action

Fabien Barthez and Mikael Silvestre were in action as France lifted the Confederations Cup, courtesy of a 97th minute golden goal from Thierry Henry.

The game was shadowed by the tragic death of Marc Vivien-Foe, who collapsed in Cameroon's semi-final victory over Columbia, and was announced dead 45 minutes later.

All the players wore black armbands as a mark of respect, and a minute silence was held before the match.

The 90 minutes finished a stalemate, with Samuel Eto having the best chance sending his shot inches wide from just yards out.

The game then went to the nerve-wracking golden goal, and it was Thierry Henry's strike, seven minutes into extra time that secured that holders France were to retain their Confederations Cup crown.

It was an emotion presentation, with all the Cameroon team wearing '17 Foe' shirts as they went up to collect their runners-up medals.

The crowd were also excellent, many holding up messages of support to Foe's family.
