Many of the great stars who have their places cemented in the current United first XI rose through the ranks of the Youth side, and gained experience along side fringe players in the reserve side before making the step up to the Senior side.

David Beckham, Gary Neville, Phillip Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Wes Brown and John O'Shea are just a few of the now household names who have grown in the United youth ranks.

Proof of the greatness of the United Youth system is their success. They have lifted the Youth F.A Cup a record 11 times, and have had success in both the Under-17 and Under-19 youth division.

The reserve squad currently play most of their home fixtures at Altrincham's Moss Lane ground, although occasionally games may be staged at Old Trafford.

They compete in the F.A Premier Reserve League, and also are involved in the Manchester Senior Cup.

The reserve team selected normally includes a mix of fringe first team players, and youth players. The reserves is also used to give players returning from injury some vital competitive match practice. The Reserve team are coached by Ricky Sbraiga, the U19s are coached by former United player Brain McClair, and Francisco Filho manages the U17 Squad.
