Five-star United overpower Belgian league leaders

Strong starting XI

Manchester United eased into the last 16 of the Europa League with a fantastic five-star victory over Club Brugge at Old Trafford, securing a 6-1 aggregate triumph.

Simon Deli's bizarre handball saw United's Belgian visitors reduced to ten men, as he tried to block a Daniel James attempt at goal.

A long VAR delay meant United had to wait five minutes until Bruno Fernandes stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, and put the Red Devils on their way.

The hosts had trebled their advantage before the break, as Odion Ighalo scored his first goal for the club, before Scott McTominay side-footed home four minutes before the interval.

Fred's performances of late have inspired the United faithful, and the Brazilian scored twice in the closing ten minutes to add an emphatic nature to the scoreline.

Brugge are rampant in the Belgian First Division A this season, but were outclassed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men, who extend their unbeaten run to a solid seven outings.

United have conceded only three goals from eight Europa League matches this season, but have troubled the scorers an impressive 16 times. This was a big step forward in a competition which rewards the winners with a Champions League spot.

Full Time - Manchester United 5-0 Club Brugge
