Mkhitaryan strikes again as United extend unbeaten run

On a roll...

Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it two goals from two games, and lifted the mood around Old Trafford to a such an extent that the Red Army can now boast an eight-match unbeaten streak.

Often, different statistics paint very different things. Just one week ago, statistics were pinging around ManUtdWeb about the club's lack of league wins since the opening three outings of the top-flight campaign.

However, United's single-goal win over Spurs on Sunday means the Red Devils are now unbeaten in eight attempts, having last lost at Fenerbahçe in early November.

Mkhitaryan's goal, his second for the club, proved decisive, as United claimed a crucial win which closes the gap on fifth-placed Tottenham to only three points. Defeat to the North London club, perennial 'near missers' in the hunt for Premier League success, would have left a worrying chasm between United and the leading pack.

Mkhitaryan struck shortly before the half-hour mark. Fresh from a wonder-goal in the Europa League at Zorya Luhansk, he latched onto Ander Herrera's pass and dispatched a fine finish which had the air of a man who is a regular, confident fixture in Jose Mourinho's plan.

Spurs created few chances and will be disappointed with their end product, despite grabbing the lion share of possession. Victor Wanyama's header was the closest they came, but equally Paul Pogba had a good chance to double United's lead.

The rejuvenated Mkhitaryan saw his afternoon; however, end in disappointment as he suffered an ankle problem. He will be desperate to return quickly to jostle for a place in an improving United team.

Full Time - Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
