Summer signing Ander Herrera is facing a spell in the treatment room after suffering a fractured rib during Manchester United's victory against West Ham on Saturday.

The midfielder could be out of action for a number of weeks after being forced off the field on the weekend.

A statement from United read: "The Spaniard was substituted in the 74th minute and the club will continue to monitor his progress over the next few weeks."

Herrera joins the likes of Michael Carrick, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling on the sidelines as Louis van Gaal continues to face a series of injury woes within his squad.

United won the game 2-1, with Wayne Rooney, later sent-off, and Robin van Persie on the scoresheet for the hosts.
