Manchester United midfielder Danny Drinkwater has moved to Barnsley on loan until the New Year. The 21-year-old will be anxious to impress at Oakwell and prove to Sir Alex Ferguson that he does have a future at Old Trafford. 

After impressing during pre-season, the club have reached an agreement to send Drinkwater on loan to Barnsley.

The midfielder will be with the Tykes until January 2nd.

Drinkwater will be anxious to prove his abilities in the Championship after enjoying mixed fortunes on loan spells with Cardiff City and Watford last season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has relied on his younger players in midfield recently, with Tom Cleverley and Paul Pogba both expected to challenge for first-team football this season. 

If Drinkwater wants a future at United, he will need to produce a string of impressive performances in the Championship. 

He recently admitted that the intense competition at Old Trafford for first-team places made things difficult and expressed his desire to go out on loan to a Championship club.

Barnsley currently sit 16th in the Championship, having picked up four points from their opening four league games - including an impressive away win at Reading.
