Will Owen stay @ OT?

Michael Owen is eager to extend his stay at Old Trafford. The 31-year-old’s two-season deal expires at the end of the campaign, but the England international is hopeful of being offered an extension by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Owen has regularly been linked with a move away from the North West during his time at United amid reported interest from the likes of Spurs.

However, the striker is determined to remain at United beyond the end of the current season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I am not sure about my future yet – my contract expires at the end of this season.

“I’ve made no secret that, in an ideal world, I would extend my stay. I would love to play here for longer, but I will just wait and see what the club say. We’ve not held any talks yet.”

Owen joined United on a free transfer in 2009 in a surprise move.

He has made 42 appearances for the Red Devils in that time, notching up 13 goals in the process.

The highlight of his career is almost certainly the last-gasp winner in the famous 4-3 league win over Manchester City.

of course he wants to stay at a club which is at the top level. Not sure if he is at that level though to be fair. The pay while you play deal was a canny move by Man U but is he up to it these days?

as a pay if you play player he's useful.

if we were payin him a wage id get rid, but costs us nothing so why not keep him around....

Depends how our 25 man squad looks Brian. We'll have a few lads returning from loan, and some of the younger kids won't get in as under-21 players any more. Add to that a few signings and there might not be space for him in the squad.

A pay-as-you play deal doesn't mean he doesnt get paid if he doesn't play either. He'll be on a low-ish basic wage with his contract heavily weighted towards appearance/goal fees. If he doesn't play he's not free - just cheap.

Cheap. Relatively.But he still scores goals. 1 in 3 for someone who plays only occasionally is not at all bad.He still scores goals & there ain't too many of his kind around.In terms of young talent have we got any coming through to push him out of the way?Not Wellebck & definately not Macheda.After our main three, not a bad back-up to be able to call on for (these crazy days) not a lot of money.Keep him.

I think we should keep him and where possible get him more involved. He has plenty to offer and should be playing more than the odd cup tie.

Cleveland - seen much of Welbeck this year? He's been excellent for Sunderland and the Eng u21s, and recently got an senior England call up. Lads got a big future and a lot of talent.

Fair comment Dawson.Don't know what it is about Welbeck.I have seen something of him at Sunderland because I live in that neck of the woods.Not convinced that he has what it takes to be consistently good at the very top.That said, he is very young & has time to develop.Hope that I am wrong & you are right. Time will tell.

More involved is a good description Rogero.We have hardly seen him for....yonks.Trouble with this guy(as we all know)is that he can get injured in the warm-up!That said...1 in 3 ain't bad.Let's keep him,but give him more game time, because there will be games in which he will make a difference.

With Rooney not playing on Saturday against the bitters the stage is set for another late goal against them from super sub Owen!

Let's get passsed Chelsea first though.

You can see m.owen still has that strikers brain and intuition but it looks to me that when he tries to execute it his body just can't react quick enough these days or he gets injured. Time will tell if he is given more playing time though but games are running out for him. Good time to have him fit with the three comps we are still in.
