Manchester United enter Wednesday's Champions League tie at Marseille as favourites with the bookmakers, despite a host of injury problems. Gabriel Heinze and the rest of the I'OM squad will have other ideas as the Red Devils make the trip to France.

Sir Alex Ferguson has a host of injury problems ahead of the crucial game.

Evergreen Welsh winger Ryan Giggs and centre-back Rio Ferdinand top the injury list for the Red Devils.

Michael Owen has also been ruled out with a groin problem, whilst Jonny Evans is suffering from an ankle knock.

Anderson, who was involved in the narrow win over Crawley Town, will also be unavailable.

United's defensive injury woes mean Chris Smalling could get the chance to impress alongside Nemanja Vidic at the back.

Veteran Paul Scholes is also expected to start the game as Fergie looks to make do with somewhat limited resources.

Little-known youngsters Joshua King and Ryan Tuncliffe make the trip, as do Bebe and Gabriel Obertan despite mediocre performances against Crawley.

Fans were pleased when United were paired alongside Marseille at this stage of the competition - but the Ligue 1 club look set to provide a stern test.

The defending French champions, currently third, go into the game on the back of successive wins against Arles, Sochaux and Saint-Étienne.

Earlier in the season, Marseille suffered a Champions League group stage defeat at Chelsea, but went onto to beat the Londoners 1-0 at home.

Ex-Red Heinze will line-up against his former club for the first time since leaving Old Trafford.

The left-back made his United debut in the Champions League against Lyon and, for long periods of his Reds career was a fan favourite for his tenacity and willingness to surge forward.

However, it was Heinze's controversial exit and his attempts to engineer a move to fierce rivals Liverpool before signing for Real Madrid which soured his Old Trafford tenure. It is that which adds an additional element of spice to Wednesday's hotly-anticipated encounter.

Heinze was crap, nani had him in his pocket, if nani had anything else in his pocket we'd be flyin it.

we were poor, the game was poor but its an away draw and get em back to our HQ and take em out.
