Richard Eckersley has turned down a new contract offer at United and has joined Lancashire rivals Burnley. The young defender has struggled for first-team opportunities at Old Trafford and will be hoping to make a big impact with the newly-promoted Clarets.
The 20-year-old was offered a new deal by Sir Alex Ferguson - but the player has instead decided to join Burnley where he is far more likely to win first-team football.
Eckersley, younger brother of another ex-Red Adam, made four substitute appearances for United after making his debut in the 2-1 F.A Cup victory over Spurs back in January.
Burnley will pay United a small compensation fee for the player due to Eckersley's tender age.
