Despite the bully boy rough house tactics of city, United gained three more points as the bounced backfrom their European defeat in midweek. The champagne is on ice but the corks aren't popping just yet.

A Cristiano Ronaldo penalty was enough to give United a win their dominance deserved, although to be fair city did stage a late rally and could and should have equalised but Vassell missed a penalty.

Michael Ball's shameful stamp on Ronaldo set the tone for the afternoon, and the free scarves in the home crowd made them look very silly and a little bit like Newcastle ! If clubs are going to give frees carves at least make some of them different - it was like a prep school outing!

Ronaldo got his revenge by earning and converting the penalty which was the only goal of the game.

For United then a double over the team who have not scored at home since New Years Day and once again can only take pleasure in their greatest rivals occasional failures!

Oh and thanks to the stewards for stopping the United players getting close to their own fans to say thank you. It makes you wonder sometimes it really does !
