After an 18 month break, David McGuire has come home to the Diamonds. Since the break up of the Archibald regime McGuire has signed for Dundee United and Livingston in the SPL.

David is son of Airdrie 'Hall of Famer' and eighties legend, Willie McGuire. David first came to prominensce during the latter stages of Alex MacDonald's reign with his debut at Starks Park establishing him as a major talent when he was only 17. Gary MacKay used him sparingly during his year in charge although a couple of injuries plagued him that season but even then his star was in ascendence. It was under Archibald though that David established himself with Archibald leading calls for an U21 cap. McGuire underlined that statement with the equalising goal in the 2000 Challenge Cup final with a superb diving header to take the game to penalities which Airdrieonians of course won. Young McGuire made a few more impressive performances in that hugely talented team and never looked out of place beside Fernandez, Calderon, Sanjuan and Moreau, and as that team was dismantled David was possibly the most hard done by as he looked like being Fernandez' first choice strike partner at the time.
