Towering English born defender Simon Vella, of Maltese extraction, has signed for Airdrie United and will play in the heart of our defence.

Vella joined Stenhousemuir last season from Sutton United and played for the Warriors until signing for Clydebank in March. Vella is a powerful central defender and will play on Sandy's left. Simon Vella still isn't 100% fit. At least I hope he's not. I think he looks rather cumbersome and is inclined to get caught on the ball. With no pace beside him in defence, I fear we'll be caught out against some pacy frontmen. I do hope I'm wrong. Shug 'Humo' Morrison
