Broomfield Rout.....

By The Stomp Team
Date: 28/10/2000

The Diamonds ended their run of home defeats in impressive fashion against Ross County. They even managed to score all six goals in the five one win with Airdrie youngster Paul Armstrong grabbing the consolation goal for County.

Airdrie started the match with Moreau, Capin, Alfonso and Prest on the bench and without the suspended Sanjuan. They took to the field with a young squad (with the exception of Calderon) but they proved their worth with a fine victory. Airdrie took the lead after 8mins when Fernandez took advantage of poor defending by the Ross County defence to stick the ball in the net. Two minutes later Austin McCann put in a good cross from the left after a good move and Taylor met the ball at the back post to head home number two.
The game then settled down and Ross County enjoyed a little bit of posession but on 36mins Antonio Calderon scored what must be a contender for goal of the season, Fernandez switched the ball from the right hand side of the park and Calderon took the cross on the volley from the edge of the box to thunder the ball past the helpless County keeper.
The second half saw Airdrie dominate once more and on 54mins Fernandez picked out John Elliot and he beat the keeper to make it four. County pulled one back when Airdrie youngster got in the way of a County cross to deflect the ball into his own net.
The Diamonds then restored their four goal cushion with a header from Martin Prest.

Airdrie Side: Broto, Boyce, McCann, Forrest, Ireland, Brady, Armstrong(71 Capin), Taylor, Elliot(63 Prest), Calderon, Fernandez(75Moreau)
