On Saturday the 14th of July Airdrie travel to Whitley Bay in a cross border friendly, for those who travel it will be the first chance to see the team.

Whitley Bay plays in the Northern League Division one and has two nicknames - "The Bay" & "The Seahorses. They were founded in 1897 as Whitley & Monkseaton.

They play out of Hillheads Park which has a maximum Capacity of 4500 and are managed by Ian Chandler. Ian made 26 appearances as a professional football playing 12 games for Barnsley, 5 games for Stockport County and 9 for Aldershot.

Whitley Bays highest attendance was in the FA Amateur cup semi final at Roker park, where the beat Hendon 2-1.
At Hillheads Park their highest attendance is 7,301 once again against Henden in the 1965, in the FA Amateur Cup.

Whitley Bays highest league position was attained in the Northern Premier League Premier Division where they finished 11th in the 1993–94 season.

Directions

If you are coming by car, from the Tyne tunnel then get on to the A19 until you reach the Coast Road, then head towards the coast, when you get to the Billy Mill roundabout head towards Tynemouth Pool/Morrison’s and at the roundabout head left on to Preston North Road(A192) go straight over the next roundabout until you get to the Foxhunters, turn Right at this roundabout and then right again at the next, you are(hopefully) now on Hillheads Road, take the right turning by the Ice Rink and you will find the Football ground, alternatively there is parking behind the ground which you can get to if you turn just before the Ice Rink and Foxhunters garage.

If you are travelling on the Train, get British Rail to Central Station and then get on a metro heading for the coast, you can either get off at Whitley Bay or Monkseaton. It is an easy 10 minute walk from either station, again just head for the Ice Rink.
