AS Airdrie 4-3 Lomond Rock
Airdrie advanced to the scottish Amateur cup 2nd round with a hard fought victory on saturday, Two changes from the win over DTI last time out saw Rowan & Gray return for Smith and McCall.
Things started well for airdrie and found themselves two goals up after twenty minutes. Firstly Gray chased down a lost cause and forced the defender to try and play out from the back, Brady robbed of him of the ball and passed to Adams who teed up shaw to sweep home the opener from the edge of the box. Adams added a second with a great solo effort, he picked up the ball midway inside the Rock half and showed great feet and a burst of pace to race clear of the defence before slotting the ball round the keeper. Rock began to come more into the game and Rowan pulled of two cracking saves firstly throwing himself to block a goalbound effort having spilled a high ball, then tipping a rasping drive over the top. However from the resultant corner Rock got one back as Airdrie were caught by a near post flick from a low corner. as half time approached Gray added a third as he chased a long ball through from Shaw he won the race but the keeper forced him wide and onto the goal line Brady was charging in at the back post but Gray somehow chipped the ball to the back of the net from an impossible angle to give Airdrie a 3-1 lead at the break.
Half Time 3-1
The second Half saw the visitors have long spells of possesion but Airdrie still dangerous on the break. Rock reduced the gap to one on 55 minutes as they notched a second goal. however there momentum was stopped in it's tracks as they were reduced to ten men shortly after for a second booking. Airdrie had a few chances to put the game to bed and were made to pay as Rock got back on level terms with 15 minutes to go. A shot from the edge of the area found it's way into the bottom corner through a packed penalty box. As the game was drifting towards a replay Neil pardoe took a quick throw in down the left to Adams feet he took it on and laid the ball off for Shaw ti dispatch a shot past the keeper from 16 yards out to send the home side into the second round.
Full Time 4-3
A good old cup tie with goals red cards and last minute winners, The visitors felt they should have taken us down to Dumbarton next week for a replay but Airdrie certainly had chances to kill the game before they levelled. Over the course though it was Airdrie who did enough to earn a home tie against Kilmarnock Amateurs next saturday. A good display and some excellent contributions but Iain Shaw picks up MOM just ahead of Adams and Gray.
