Airdrie had Doc and Marv back in midfield while Harv and Oliver Risser, who's now with Kilmarnock, were out. From Hugh's description of the game it gave Airdrie a degree of solidity that's been missing of late. With the engine room and defence now at full strength it gave our front line of McGuire (playing deep), McKeown and Vareille a solid platform to play off. And so it turned out. McKeown and a header from Paul Armstrong (it said Marvyn on teletext but I think I'd trust Shug), had us two up at half time and Hugh did mention that Brannigan could and should have scored when he had a free header too. Shuggie did say that big Bertie wasn't having too bad a game.

The atmosphere when he called was sounding electric and was really driving home to me what I've been missing. Somehow my trip to B&Q for emergency supplies just wasn't as exiting. The third goal sounded a beauty. Vareille beating the goalie but his shot was cleared off the line only for Dosser to thrash home a thunderous volley from the edge of the box for his second double of the season so far. We then rued the fact that Jerome, despite his improving workrate and build up play, really, really needed a goal. Five minutes later I'd found my cement and just as I got into the car, "Jerome, ya f*ckin' beauty". 4-0 and the Frenchman finally bags his second of the season. Could it get any better? Stevie McKeown, with his first senior hat-trick, put the icing on the cake. Of course I'm driving home and getting a running commentary while Hugh is going orgasmic on the other end of the line. It's the closest I've came to phone sex I suppose!

The by then ten men Brechin did manage to claw on back but what a day for Sandy Stewart. I wouldn't blame him if he took great pride in producing that result considering the rumblings of stick he's been getting lately. Well done Sandy!
