Ravenscraig 0-6 AS Airdrie

Airdrie advanced to the knockout stages of the league cup with a victory that gives them top spot in the section and a home tie with EK Accies. Changes from the midweek draw saw Burton, K.Pardoe and Capaldi replace Slevin, Gray and Brady. I’ll have to update the first goal as this reporter was away getting the half time refreshments when Airdrie took an early lead through Clark. On yet another mud field good football was at a premium and Airdrie struggled to get any momentum going, The home side having plenty ball but no real clear cut chances created, as the half was drifting to a close Airdrie hit Ravenscraig with a double whammy, Firstly Capaldi got a run in on the keeper as he cut in from the left to spring the offside trap and tucked a tidy finish past the keeper, Minutes later Edgar got a third when he burst through from midfield to take the keeper on and won that particular battle with a cool finish. A 3-goal lead at the interval was very flattering to say the least. A much better second half saw Kenny Pardoe settle the tie early on as he got a break down the left, the home defence failed to close down and Pardoe measured a cracking curling finish in to the top right of the goal. Scott was replaced by Neil Pardoe & Gray replaced Clark up front and had a hand in Airdrie’s fifth as his low cross was turned into the net by the home defender. Kenny Pardoe ended the scoring with a cheeky chip over the keeper from 20yards out with around 15 minutes to go. Brady replaced the hard working Edgar and should have netted a seventh but his hurried effort went past the post. Hard to be critical after a 6-0 win and taking the state of the pitch in to consideration it was a very hard earned win.
