Airdrie United fans have been stunned by the sensational news that Jerome Vareille has signed ahead of the league clash with Brechin. The signing of the 28 year old Frenchman provides a major boost to the Diamonds hopes of instant promotion.
Airdrie United Chairman Jim Ballantyne announced on The Broomfield Stomp message board tonight that he and Sandy Stewart have signed Jerome with the following statement;
We are delighted to confirm that Jerome Varaille signed for Airdrie United this evening. He should be eligible for selection on Saturday.
FIFA changed the rules last week to allow clubs to register players who were not already registered with any other club. This made it possible for us to go and finalise the deal with Jerome.
This gives our squad a great boost with some very important games coming up and we hope the fans are as pleased as we are.
Upward and onward!

What more can I add to that statement? This is a major signing for our club and forcefully underscores the ambition of both the management and the owners. Vareille is serious quality as we all know. Jim and Sandy know that the support will take this signing as a serious declaration of their intent and hopefully it will be a catalyst in the growth of the new club.
Playing wise Vareille will provide the experience to carry the exiting talent of Gow and McGuire. I don't know who'll play Saturday but lets just get everyone we know along to the game to show our gratitude for this amazing news.
