Hibs Start Janos Matyus Looks TO Extend His Deal

April 4 2003

Hibs Hungarian International defender Janos Matyus has today stated his desire to stay at Easter Road, the Hungarians deal runs out at the end of the summer With 7 games left of the curreent campaign Janos Matyus knows he is running out of time to persuade Bobby Williamson to offer him a new deal. Even if Bobby does fancy offering the towering defender a new deal there could be the probelm of obtaining a work permit. Matyus was disapointed at being left out of the Hngarian squad for last weeks fixtures saying "Of course I was disappointed not to be selected for Hungary's two matches, it was good for them to get a draw against Poland but the result against Sweden was not so good. It is pretty tight for qualification," Matyus told the Daily Record this morning, adding: ""There has been a lot of talk in the Hungarian newspapers and on TV as to why I was not picked for the squad. The manager said on television that, of course, if I was fit I would have to play. However, he said that I had only played two games in Scotland since my injury and he felt it was not enough." Matyus then hopes he can retain his place in Bobby Williamson's side for the remainder of the season and show he is worthy not only of a new deal at Hibs, but a return to the international stage. He said: "The national coach went on to say that if I was playing for Hibs then I would have a good chance for the next qualifying game. It has been difficult to be on the outside but I would like to be back soon. It affects my chances of staying at Hibs and I don't know what will happen now but I know I want to play here.
