Nottingham Forest have reportedly had a bid for Coventry City striker Leon Best turned down. The pacy forward was a transfer target of Colin Calderwood’s in the summer of 2007, prior to Best joining Coventry. Forest are hunting a new striker after Junior Agogo jetted out to the African Nations Cup.

The snub will come as a blow to Colin Calderwood, who had stated his desire to add to the squad prior to the next league game – a home clash with Leyton Orient next Saturday (January 12).

Best, 21, signed for Coventry in the summer for a fee of £650,000 set by a transfers tribunal.

But his time at Coventry has been marred by the club’s financial problems, with the transfer fee of Best himself adding to City’s woes as they neared administration in late 2007.

Forest’s bid is believed to be in the region of £500,000, with clauses dependent on promotion, but the club will have to respond with an improved bid if they are to land the Nottingham-born striker.

Best has stated in the past that he would favour a move to his hometown club, which would see him link up with close friend Wes Morgan.
