Manchester United youngster Gerard Pique has put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract extension as a reward for solid displays in reserve and academy games this season.

Pique, a summer signing from Barcelona, has proved to be one of the more reliable and talented teenagers in the Red Devils' second-string.

Seventeen year old Pique, who celebrates his 18th birthday in early February, hopes to be a success at Old Trafford in a few years by being in the senior squad on a more consistent basis.

The Spanish defender has already tasted senior football, making two appearances in the Carling Cup and one in the FA Cup. This obviously indicts Sir Alex Ferguson has faith in the youngster.

"I will give it everything I've got and then maybe in two years I will be in the [senior] team," stated ambitious Pique.
