Aldershot Town reached the last 16 of the Carling-sponsored League Cup during an action-packed evening of knock-out football on Tuesday. Whilst United hammered Leeds at Elland Road, there were wins for the likes of Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsene Wenger's troubled Arsenal. 

Arsenal had to come from behind to qualify for the next stages. They trailed 1-0 to Shrewsbury Town, who had also hit the post, before staging a comeback against the plucky League Two outfit.

Elsewhere, Aldershot's dream Carling Cup run continues with a 2-1 victory over Rochdale. Dean Holdsworth's men scored twice in the second-half on one of the most famous nights in their history.

Championship pace setters Middlesbrough suffered defeat at Crystal Palace, whilst Wolves marched into the next round with an amazing 5-0 thumping of Millwall in the Midlands.

Stoke City knocked-out Spurs after a drawn-out and tense penalty shoot-out, whilst Blackburn Rovers and Burnley claimed home wins over Leyton Orient and Milton Keynes Dons respectively.

Lancashire rivals Bolton Wanderers won 2-0 at Villa Park to heap misery on Alex McLeish's Midlands outfit, whilst Newcastle United won a seven-goal thriller at Nottingham Forest.

The Carling Cup action continues on Wednesday evening as United fans ponder who may await them in the fourth round.
