Victoria Park 2-3 AS Airdrie

Airdrie picked up a third away win of the season with a spirited win over Victoria Park. Captain Stuart Smith sat out the first of his two-match suspension; coach MacFarlane took a place on the bench.

 Airdrie had an early chance when Gray fired over after just 2 minutes. The home side showed their intensions when they struck the bar after a quarter of an hour. They then took the lead 5 minutes later through a back post header from a corner kick. Airdrie didn’t get a foothold on the game till the last 15 minutes of the first half where they pressed forward more against a swirling wind. 2nd half was much better from the away side and they struck back instantly, Shaw picked up the ball inside his own half and went past two players before passing for Lindsay, his return pass saw Shaw take the ball into feet with a lovely move before clipping the ball over the keeper. Airdrie began to create more chances and were unlucky on a few occasions. The home side grabbed the lead again a little against the run of play as Gibb cut inside from the left and squeezed the ball in from a tight angle. Airdrie responded well and put the home defence under pressure and this was duly rewarded as a penalty for handball was given, Shaw dispatched the kick with ease to level the game off. Airdrie pressed on for a winner Clark and Neil Pardoe coming close with free kicks, a series of off side’s some contentious some not so also held up progress. The persistence paid off when the home side again tried to hold a high line this time Lindsay timed his run perfectly and collected Hetherington’s through ball down the left channel before cutting inside the defender and smashing the ball over the keeper for a well earned win. A good 3 points consolidates 5th place and on course for a top half finish with St Marys close on our heels. Edgar was again terrific at the back and cooper’s height was again a welcome addition to the back line Lindsay got through a lot of work in midfield but Shaw once again proved to be the talisman with a brilliant goal and a calm penalty. RowanGraham Cooper Edgar N.PardoeShaw Lindsay M.Brown CapaldiClark Gray
