AS Airdrie 3-1 EK Accies

AS Airdrie advanced to the quarter finals of the Walker Gas Services League Cup thanks to goals from Gray, K.Pardoe & Lindsay. No changes from last weeks dramatic win over Greenhill’s. Hetherington & Stewart making the bench. 

A minutes silence to mark the tragic passing of St Mary’s Danny Hurley was impeccably observed by both clubs prior to kick off. Once the action got underway Airdrie took the game to there opponents with Gray and Shaw looking lively. After 13 minutes the former was in the thick of it as Airdrie took the lead from a sweeping move, Gray collected the ball just inside the Accies half before shifting it on to Kenny Pardoe who flicked the ball past the defence for Gray to collect on the run, Gray duly drew the keeper and dispatched a nice finish into the bottom corner. Five minutes later it was two as Shaw’s mazy run was ended inside the area. Kenny Pardoe making no mistake with the spot kick, Further chances came Airdrie’s way and in all honesty should have been a few ahead at the break, However Accies got themselves back in the game on the stroke of half time a well timed run from midfield saw the Accies player bear down on Rowan’s goal and he slotted home low into the left hand corner. 

Airdrie regained the two goal advantage almost immediately a great run from Neil Pardoe who broke into the Accies box and found Gray who set up Lindsay to drill home from 8 yards. Accies rarely threatened Rowan’s goal in the second half a couple of half chances came there way, by the same token Airdrie lost there way a bit but always controlled the midfield. Stewart & Hetherington replaced S.Graham & R.Graham with 20 to go and Airdrie comfortably saw out the match with Brady replacing K.Pardoe for the last few minutes of the match. Not a great display but enough to win the game, Three well taken goals will do no harm to the confidence and at last a bit of consistency with selection. With Clark, Edgar & Capaldi to return things are shaping up nicely at this early stage of the season. Few contenders for MOM and a slight disagreement from the sides but we have opted for the drive and energy shown by Scott Lindsay and a goal to boot.
