AS Airdrie 3-1 Greenhills Dynamos

Airdrie made it three home wins out of three with a deserved 3-1 victory against Greenhills at Airdrie sports centre. Goals from Edgar, K.Pardoe and Gray were enough to see off the East Kilbride men who got a consolation. From their top scorer Donnelly with five minutes left.

First half saw Airdrie take an early lead through Edgar but chances were at a minimum throughout the half with strong defending from both teams. However Airdrie scored a vital goal on the stroke of half time through Kenny who followed up a short clearance by hammering the ball into the net from ten yards

Second half saw Airdrie make it three nil after the hour mark. A great through ball from Kenny saw Gray clear and another composed finish followed as he took the ball round the keeper and scored from an acute angle. Airdrie could have had a couple more as Gray fired wide then Pardoe missed a good chance. Dynamo had a couple of chances themselves with a header that went wide then a Donnelly shot that flew by the post. With five left Donnelly headed an effort which Rowan tipped onto the bar and down onto the goal line. With Dynamo claiming it crossed the line the ref gave the goal although from his angle it was impossible to tell although Rowan was incensed as he stated quite clearly that the ball hadn’t went over. The goal stood but it was only a consolation and Airdrie ran out three one winners.

A good team performance with some fine individual play as well. The defence again gave little away with good support from Scott Graham (who had an excellent second half), the midfield worked hard as a unit and Capaldi and Gray worked the defence the whole game with Capaldi’s good hold up play and Gray’s pace. A team effort with everybody working for each other, which has been a big part in our unbeaten start to the season. We look forward to the Scottish next week with an away tie to Kirkintilloch amateurs.
