Central midfielder Stephen signed for the Dons on a three-month loan deal in March 2009 as Roberto Di Matteo looked for reinforcements to bolster the club's push for promotion to the Championship.

A talented ball player but also someone willing to get down and dirty when asked, Stephen is a naturally attacking player but was initially used during his loan spell as a holding midfielder. His composure and ability to keep the team ticking over impressed many from the off, and as an Irish midfielder arriving from Wolves, comparisons to ex-captain Keith Andrews were unsurprisingly made.

On the fringes of the Wolves first-team, Stephen has previously spent time on loan at Hereford and Stockport, earning rave reviews at the latter and scoring the wonder goal that took them to the 2007/08 League Two playoff final, which they went on to win.
