Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has always used his Carling Cup games to mix and match up-and-coming youngsters with fringe players and that will prove no exception tomorrow. However, one or two first team starts may be called up due to minor injury problems.

Ferguson is likely to field the same team that were embarrassingly held to a goalless draw by Conference side Exeter City on Saturday in the FA Cup and will simply have to pull up their socks to have any chance in beating the league leaders at Stamford Bridge.

"There is a great momentum about Chelsea just now and they are playing with confidence," said Scotsman Ferguson.

"History tells you they will have a blip and both Arsenal and ourselves are hoping it will happen."

"But that doesn't mean to say it will and I don't think what happens tomorrow will affect it too much anyway." he added.

Chelsea have had to work for their place in the latter stages of this cup as they aim for the quadruple. West Ham, Newcastle United and Fulham have all been knocked down as The Blues serge through the competition.

United's 2nd XI or "Carling Cup Squad" have managed to eliminate Championship side Crewe and Premiership outfits Arsenal and Crystal Palace from the cup.

Chelsea are going through a mini-injury crisis as they're missing Arjen Robben through suspension and Robert Huth, Ricardo Carvalho Scott Parker, Mateja Kezman due to injury.

Speaking about United's squad situation, Ferguson stated: "The injury situation is a bit unclear at the moment. Some players are almost ready to come back," 

"This couple of days is important to Louis Saha, in particular, and Quinton Fortune. John O'Shea will be back because he hasn't been out that long, so his fitness is OK."

"However, Louis and Quinton have been out for a lot longer so what they do up to tomorrow is really important. I will have to weigh up their fitness and see the work they do. Gary Neville is still off and Rio Ferdinand has suffered a wee knock but he'll be OK for Saturday at Liverpool. The Anfield game has to be a major consideration when I am picking my team for the Carling Cup at Chelsea." he continued.
