The Uruguayan ace has caught the eye of various Spanish clubs including Atletico Madrid and Malaga after failing to live up to his prolific scoring habits since his £7.5 million move from Independiente.

With the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha, Alan Smith, David Bellion and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the team, chances this season will be limited for Forlan. 

"I do not want to leave United. I am aware of all the speculation about my future, but nobody at the club has told me I am being sold." he admitted.

"I have proved that, when I get a decent run of games, I start scoring. But the longest run I have had is six matches."

"I just need another chance to show the manager and the fans that I can still be a part of the future of the team."

After a dry first season at United, unpredictable Forlan soon became a cult-favourite after producing match-winning goals against arch-rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
