This week we made the short trip to the L that is New Douglas park to give our academic minded rivals a footballing lesson. It has to be said that the home side failed miserably in this derby day test and if we can continue the form that we are producing at the minute im sure that we will pass our expectations for this term and not only survive in the higher grade but finish in a comfortable mid table position.

This was our first outing on the artificial pitch and it showed as we unfortunately lost an early goal due to us struggling to get used to the pace of the ball on the wet plastic surface As the game progressed we eventually gained the upper hand and it was no surprise when Old King Coyle headed in a deserved equaliser from a neat cross from Gow.

Just before half time the Diamonds took the lead after some superb inter play between Coyle and Gow who stroked the ball beautifully into the Accies net.

After the break Airdrie continued to dominate and looked comfortable but in the 55^th minute the game erupted into brawl as all twenty outfield players got involved a scene that you would normally see at Murrayfield with bodies getting pulled and shoved all over the place. For the second time in as many weeks Kenny Clark had to separate feuding players and in the end Accies had a man dismissed. Even after watching this on tv, I still cant understand how all this came about.

As the match continued there was only going to be one winner and to reaffirm this, man of the match, Alan Gow showed why he is so highly regarded at Airdrie when he scored what can only be described as a sublime goal to give us what turns out to be  “9 in a row”, (points).
