Frontline Scotland Review

By Gordon Thomson Date: 21/11/2001 The Frontline Scotland broadcast has been and gone with more of a whimper than anticipated. Maybe we thought that the show would be more explosive but the material filmed would probably been too controverial for what they had in mind.


It was certainly a chance to tell the world what was really going on at our club, from our perspective, but the show was more general in its approach to the financial crisis at large.

If truth be told I liked the show. What there was of it. I thought the subject could have been spread over at least five or six shows and covered in great detail. They certainly had enough footage but I'd imagine the viewing figures would have been lower than Football First. It didn't really even take in the Clydebank, Airdrie, Hamilton, Falkirk scenarios. Just fleeting mentions pieced together with some token grahpics. It scratched the surface though and maybe some people will sit up and take notice. Funny feeling they won't.

The bit of the show I appreciated most was the outlook of Falkirk Fan Paul Hutton. The future he envisaged for the medium sized and smaller clubs, as community clubs run by their supporters as "Supporters Trusts" could be the saviour of the game at grass roots level. Maybe there is some mileage in there for Airdrie?
