Can Airdrie get back on track at Brockenville?

By Gordon Thomson Date: 15/11/2001 Airdrie travel up to Brockville on Saturday on league business still smarting from last weeks home defeat by the odd goal in three to Clyde. Can we bounce back straight away?


The best way to find out of course is to get away to Brockville for the last time (they've been saying that for the last four years of course) and see for yourselves. AISA buses will be leaving the Albert Bar at 1.45pm. Anyone wanting to travel can contact DIAMONDPOWER9@aol.com for travel details.

Airdrie will be wanting to bounce back from last weeks defeat to Clyde, but we are also looking for an improvement in form that has seen us draw far too many times lately which has ultimately done far more damage than that defeat. Draws at Kirkcaldy, Partick, Love Street and at home to Ross County has seen our impressive early lead disintegrate into a three point deficit to Partick. Ian McCall, like the former SFA man Craig Brown, seems to like protecting impressive statistics, but as Brown found out, the stats can lie. Many fans are getting bored watching the team sit further back each week protecting THAT streak.

Maybe the trip to Falkirk will provide a release that will let McCall and the lads return to the kind of form we saw in September. Hopefully Mark Roberts and Paul Armstrong will be fit after both were subbed last week. Alan McManus was also sorely missed. Will there be a place in the squad for former Northern Ireland star Michael O'Neill? He has been training at Nou Broomfield lately. He was a decent player a few years ago at Dundee Utd and Hibs, but after following Alex Miller to Coventry he picked up a really bad injury. He was at St. Johnstone earlier in the season, but following the sacking of Sandy Clark, McCall has thrown him a chance to avoid the scrapheap.

One interesting match up could see Sandy Stewart coming face to face again with Kevin McAllister. There aren't many players who wee Sandy can claim to be a good few years younger than. Don't expect them to be chasing each other all over the pitch!!
