Town have confirmed the signing of Nottingham Forest striker David McGoldrick until May on loan with a view to a full move at the end of the season.

The 25 year old who will wear shirt number 16 trained at Portman Road this morning and is out of contract at The City Ground at the end of June, so if the players loan spell does prove successful, then Town will be able to sign the player on a free transfer in the summer.

With striker DJ Campbell having returned to QPR, Town were one man light in the forwards department. Whilst boss Mick McCarthy has already stated he would like to bring Campbell to Portman Road on a full deal, a move is by no means certain for the 31 year old and the addition of McGoldrick helps fill that void.

The 6ft 1in forward spent time on loan at Coventry late last year where he managed to score 16 goals in 22 games in what was a very successful loan spell for the Nottingham born player.

McGoldrick started his career as a trainee, at his current clubs arch rivals, Notts County, where after being involved in just four league games he joined South cost club Southampton in 2004 where he scored 12 times in 64 league games, also spending time on loan at Notts County, Bournemouth and Port Vale.

The marksman joined current club Nottingham Forest in 2009 for a fee said to be around the £1M mark with Southampton in financial crisis. Whilst at Forest, the player has scored 8 goals in 63 league games and in addition to the previously mentioned loan spell at Coventry, the player also spent a short time on loan at Yorkshire side Sheffield Wednesday.

Town have also today been linked with a move for Hull City striker Aaron McLean as TownFans.co.uk reported earlier.
