Striker DJ Campbell is set to return to parent club QPR in a few days following the completion of his loan spell at Portman Road, but Town boss Mick McCarthy says he is very keen to sign the 31 year old on a full deal should he get the chance.

Campbell has performed exceptionally well for Town since joining from Queens Park Rangers in early october, netting 10 goals in 16 league games for the club and whilst the striker will return to Loftus Road following Tuesday's game against Brighton, boss Mick McCarthy admits he will try to see if a deal could be done to sign the player up on full terms.

Speaking to the Official Club Website of the chances of doing so, former Republic of Ireland boss McCarthy said: “We still don’t know long term where we are with DJ. I have spoken to Harry and he justifiably wants to have a look at him so DJ will be going back to QPR. 

"We will have to wait and see what develops from there. I have spoken to DJ. He is enjoying it here and we want to keep him. I have offered him what amounts to a permanent deal and hopefully something can be sorted out.

“I know there are other clubs that are keen on him as well though. It will be down to what QPR and DJ want to do in the end. It will be the last appearance of his loan tomorrow, let’s hope he marks it by scoring the winner.”

Whilst Campbell's loan is officially up a few days later, on the 5th January, it's understood that parent club QPR have requested that he does not play in the FA Cup Third round game against Aston Villa, to avoid the player being cup-tied.
